Five players stood apart from their competitors at this year’s Intercollegiate Golf Warm-up and earned a spot to play in the 42nd annual Marine Federal Credit Union Intercollegiate Golf Championship.

Steve Kubik, Todd Mallorey, Ronald Scott, Filipo Bartley and Marty Martinez will represent Camp Lejeune during the tournament scheduled, March 21-24.

Thirty two teams from across the nation are slated to compete in this year’s intercollegiate tournament hosted at Paradise Point Golf Course.

“Making the team is a big deal for me,” said retired Master Sgt. Ronald Scott. He added it is cool to play against active duty members in the warm-up and looks forward to competing against the collegiate golfers.

To secure a spot on the team representing Camp Lejeune, golfers played two rounds of golf, one on the Scarlett course and one on the Gold course. The five lowest scratch scores were placed on the team.

“Ninety-five percent of our amateurs are Marines or associated with the Marine Corps, giving any college player who comes to base a great experience,” said John Johnson, head golf professional at Paradise Point Golf Course. “It showcases the base and the sense of camaraderie.”

With so many players from across the area, including college students and amateurs, the four rounds of tournament play will be open to spectators with base access.
