SecDef's Suicide Prevention and Response Independent Review Committee Open Session, Sept. 14

12 Sep 2022 | MCIEAST Communication Strategy & Operations Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune

During the week of Sept. 12-16, the Secretary of Defense's Suicide Prevention and Response Independent Review Committee (SPRIRC) will be at MCB Camp Lejeune. During the week they will be meeting with various focus groups - military, civilian, families and local civic leaders as they review all relevant suicide prevention and response activities. The SPRIRC will have an 'open/drop-in' session scheduled on Wednesday, Sept. 14 from 10 to 11:30 a.m. at the Paradise Point Officers Club in the MLG Room. Anyone who is interested in sharing related information as it pertains to suicide prevention and response, as well as immediate actions on addressing sexual assault are encouraged to stop by and speak to a committee member. All information shared during these sessions will remain confidential.

MCB Camp Lejeune is the only Marine Corps installation the SPRIRC team will visit. Upon the conclusion of their visits to other DoD installations in October, they will compile a comprehensive report addressing the services policies, programs and resources employed to address and prevent suicide. Their final report will be presented to the Sec. Austin during December 2022 and Congressional leaders during February 2023. DoD and MCB Camp Lejeune remain committed to the mental health of our personnel, and to make sure we do everything possible to assist our people and their families.
