Representatives from the Environmental Restoration Program with Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune’s Environmental Management Division were presented with the Secretary of the Navy Environmental Award aboard the base at the Officer’s Club, Aug. 8. Donald R. Schregardus, the deputy assistant secretary of the Navy (Environment), presented the award to team along with Maj. Gen. Juan Ayala, the Marine Corps Installations Command commanding general, and Col. James W. Clark, the deputy commander of Marine Corps Installations East. The Environmental Restoration Program was also recognized as the best program of its type throughout military and defense communities with a Secretary of Defense Environmental Award earlier this year. The program addresses ordnance and environmental concerns throughout the base. Since its inception in 1983, the Environmental Restoration team has performed environmental responses at more than 900 locations and is currently active in more than 80 sites. Charity Delaney, a native of Johnstown, Pennsylvania and the Installation Restoration Program manager, Jenni Reed, a native of Swansboro, North Carolina and the Fuel Tank Program manager and Patti Vanture a native of Virginia Beach, Virginia and an environmental engineer represented the team at the award presentation.
