Capt. Miguel A. Cruz, Headquarters and Support Battalion Alpha Company commanding officer, and his son, Carlos, listen to a Golf Battery 2nd Battalion 10th Marines Regiment cannoneer Marine talk about the 155 mm Howitzer used during a Memorial Day 21 gun salute at the parade deck May 27. More than two dozen residents and veterans attended the ceremony. Teams of three cannoneer Marines fired blank rounds from four Howitzers. Blank rounds are used during ceremonies for their visual effect and for safety. The garrison flag flew at half-mast during the ceremony.
