Jarod Gee is presented the U.S. flag following military funeral honors with funeral escort for his spouse, U.S. Marine Corps Sgt. Nicole L. Gee, in Section 60 of Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Virginia, Sept. 29, 2021.
Sgt. Gee died on Aug. 26, 2021, as a result of an enemy attack while supporting non-combatant evacuation operations in Kabul, Afghanistan. Twelve other service members from the U.S. Marines Corps, U.S. Navy, and U.S. Army died in the same attack supporting Operation Freedom’s Sentinel. Sgt. Gee was assigned to the Combat Logistics Battalion 24, 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina.

This family was the first non-Special Immigrant Visa applicant family who completed the Department of Homeland Security’s resettlement application process. The Department of Defense, through U.S. Northern Command, and in support of the Department of Homeland Security, is providing transportation, temporary housing, medical screening, and general support for at least 50,000 Afghan evacuees at suitable facilities, in permanent or temporary structures, as quickly as possible. Master Gunnery Sgt. Andrew D. McCurry assumes responsibilities as the U.S. Special Operations Command Central Command Senior Enlisted Leader, Aug. 6, 2021. McCurry is the first Marine to be selected as the CSEL of SOCCENT and the second Marine to be selected as the senior enlisted leader for a Theater Special Operations Command.
