Air Mobility Command (AMC) - Patriot Express

11 Jan 2024 |

-Air Mobility Command (AMC) Patriot Express (PE) is a government contracted plane that is the directed mode of transportation when traveling to overseas (OCONUS) and transoceanic travel locations, both permanent change of station (PCS) and temporarily additional duty (TAD).

- If Air Mobility Command Patriot Express is available and meets mission requirements for outside continental United Stated (OCONUS) TAD travel, it must be used. MCO 4600.7A.pdf

-AMC flights open 90 days prior to the departure month therefore proactiveness and early planning is deemed necessary, specifically during peak PCS summer months.

- If AMC PE is available and meets mission requirements outside of the continental U.S., it must be used. Authorizing Official’s (AO’s) should request through DMO AMC availability for TAD/UDP travelers (attached is a roster needed for multiple travelers), prior to submitting DTS orders and flights through SATO.  When the traveler’s TAD requirements align with the AMC departure/return dates, AMC will be utilized for travel.  For PCS travel, if AMC travel dates and availability fall within the directed 14-21-day travel window, travelers will be booked and directed to fly AMC-PE to their next duty station.

-PCS travelers will complete their port call / OBI requirements and IPAC will generate a port call request that will be given to PTO to book commercial travel.  TAD travelers will complete their DTS travel authorizations and provide PTO with their approved DD-1610 orders to book AMC travel to their TAD location.

-For those traveling with pets, space for pets can be limited and it is recommended that travel requests be provided to PTO prior to AMC flight missions opening to ensure that when these flights open, PTO can grab spaces for families that have pets traveling with them.

- In circumstances where travelers cannot meet the AMC timeline or availability for travelers, family and/or pets, MCO 4600.7A states that commanders can grant an exception to policy (ETP) on a case-by-case basis, where commercial travel can be approved and booked to OCONUS locations. Refer to the regulation for specific reasons and considerations where commanders can determine a negative impact for a traveler’s mission.

-Requirements:  Ensure you have all required documents prior to show times. Active-duty military require Military ID, civilians/dependents are required to have Passports and approved orders. Travelers must check-in by the show time hours indicated on the AMC travel itinerary provided by PTO.  Failure to provide all documentation and report during the show time hours, travelers face the risk of not being able to depart on that AMC flight.  REQUIRMENTS ARE NOT NEGOTIABLE.

-Baggage allowance/restrictions: Passengers are allowed 2 free checked bags (70lbs each, 62 linear inches) and one personal item for storage in the passenger cabin area. Hand carried items shall be no larger than 45 linear inches and must fit under the passenger's seat or in the overhead. For carry on/checked prohibited items guidance see: http://www.tsa.gov/
