CAMP LEJEUNE, N.C. --
Beginning July 5, new gate schedules will begin to take effect on Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune and Marine Corps Air Station New River to improve security.
"This is a relatively new concept," said Capt. Adam McKillop, operations officer with the Provost Marshal’s Office. "We’ve been at force protection Bravo for a year and a half and with that, we’ve decided to take another look at ways we can best provide security to the installation."
Changes include The Piney Green and Douglass gates outbound and inbound lanes only being open from 5:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. during the weekdays, Only the outbound lanes will be available after hours.
"Based on some traffic analysis at the gates," said McKillop. "We’ve looked at closing some gates at non peak hours and keeping certain gates open to limit any security vulnerabilities of the installation."
The Tarawa Terrance II gate will also run from 5:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on the weekdays and air station’s back gate will close after peak hours.
"This will significantly increase the security that the Provost Marshal’s Office can provide," said McKillop."
The Wilson boulevard gate will be open 24 hours a day and smaller changes to schedules will take effect throughout the year based off of construction around the installation.
"We’re looking forward to the changes and appreciate the public’s patience as we transition through this," said McKillop. "Security is not just something that PMO can do; it’s everyone’s responsibly to identify these issues so we can help."
