HITT Center currently under renovations

If you Crossfit, kettle bells and TRX enthusiasts were wondering why the High Intensity Tactical Training center aboard Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune looks closed, don’t worry - it’s just undergoing renovations.

The HITT Center has been temporarily relocated to building 512 on M Street with all of its equipment, while renovation

Since the center’s debut, the HITT Center has become increasingly popular with service members and other Department of Defense personnel who utilize its facilities on base to get, “broken off,” as Kellie Clements, the HITT center supervisory recreation specialist said in an interview earlier this year.

With new restrooms, climbing ropes, roofing and flooring included, the HITT center’s renovations are said to make it much more aesthetically pleasing, as well as better accommodate the number of people who go there every day.

“We are temporarily shut down at building 401 due to renovations and we are estimating about eight to10 months for the renovations to be done,” said Clements. “The whole place is getting gutted and will be renovated from top to bottom, to make it more accommodating for the functional fitness that we are looking to push and promote.”

Clements added that the temporary location is smaller than what patrons are used to but “it’s going to work,” she assured.

“It’s going to take some time to get the HITT center up and running but we’re excited,” said Clements. “It should be a smooth transition.”

The HITT gym is also home to the Mobile Training Unit, which is literally a HITT gym on wheels. Most of the things in the facility can be easily loaded up and taken to Marines at various locations around the base.

Marines can call the gym and if they have a group of 25 or more participants, the Mobile Training Unit is willing to load up and meet with them to exercise.

For service members who wish to exercise with the MTU but don’t have 25 or more participants, a website is being developed which will show them where and when the MTU will be holding their physical training session.

The HITT Center’s hours of operation are still the same, which are 5 a.m. to 8 p.m. during weekdays and 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays.
