Camp Lejeune Sets TCC-III

29 Aug 2023 | MCIEAST Communication Strategy & Operations Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune

As of 8 a.m., Aug. 29, Base Operations has established Tropical Cyclone Condition 3 (TCC III) in preparation for any potential future impacts from Tropical Storm Idalia. The base emergency operations center (EOC) has initiated planning actions across the base in preparation for the storm's arrival. TCC III is established when a destructive weather system with sustained winds of 50 knots (58 mph) or greater is possibly forecast to affect the area within 48 hours. At this time, the installation is expecting rainfall amounts of 4-6 inches with low-end Tropical Storm force winds, 20-30 mph, with gusts up to 50 mph. Expect conditions to arrive Wednesday afternoon, Aug. 30 and continue into early Thursday afternoon, Aug. 31. In accordance with Base Orders 3440.1D and 3440.6G, all base staff and tenant commands are to ensure that all tasks specified for completion during TCC III are completed and reported to the Base EOC.

All Camp Lejeune interests should monitor the NOAA NWS National Hurricane Center forecast throughout the week and consider possible impacts. MCB Camp Lejeune will continue to monitor the storm forecast and will publish additional information as the situation dictates.

Currently, Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune commands, activities, and tenants are highly encouraged to do the following:

  • Maintain proper police of assigned areas.
  • Take in anything that could be picked up by the wind or carried into and block storm drains.
  • Ensure all windows and doors close properly.
  • Ensure all motor transport and outdoor storage lots are carefully inspected and made as weather safe as possible.
  • Relocate vehicles and containers that are in low lying areas, ensure storm drains are not blocked.
  • Individuals and families should inventory emergency supply kits.
  • Ensure an adequate supply of no cook shelf-stable food, drinking water, baby supplies, and prescription medications are on hand.
  • Ensure important documents are weather proof.
  • Don't forget pets.
  • Ensure critical stocks of individual and family hurricane supplies are maintained to include  medical supplies, batteries, canned foods, etc.
  • If, in the event of a major storm and you are planning to leave the area, consider your route carefully, plan to leave early, and ensure your unit/neighbors know where you are going and how to contact you.
