MARINE CORPS BASE CAMP LEJEUNE, N.C. --
NORMAL OPERATIONS THURSDAY, JULY 8
As of the 11 a.m. [EDT] update from the National Hurricane Center, Tropical Storm Elsa will make landfall in Florida today and lift northeast passing just to the west of eastern North Carolina Thursday into Thursday evening. Forecast impacts are expected to be below the threshold for an elevation in Tropical Cyclone Conditions of Readiness by the installation emergency operations center.
However, it still constitutes a weather threat to MCIEAST installations located along both North and South Carolina coasts. All coastal Carolina installations can expect strong gusting winds (20-40mph) and heavy rain (1-2 inches) as the storm passes their locality.
All personnel, activities, and commands should ensure that their property, equipment, and facilities are postured for potential severe weather, and that work schedules, planned operations and training events are evaluated considering the specific forecast for their area. Employees and military personnel should contact their supervisors or chain of command for specific work schedule instructions.
All members of the MCIEAST community are advised to closely monitor the National Hurricane Center and local weather forecasts for important updates during the next 36 hours.
