Readiness through training: 2/8 participates in MCCRE

By Camp Lejeune, N.C. | 10th Marine Regiment | November 7, 2017

Through austere weather conditions and harsh terrain, Marines with 2nd Battalion, 8th Marine Regiment participated in a Marine Corps Combat Readiness Evaluation at Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune, N.C., Oct. 25-30.

The evaluated training ensured that Marines could be pushed to the limits in realistic combat scenarios and still work efficiently to complete the mission.

The Marines inserted via helicopter into the area of the Camp Davis Air Field where they set up a defense against simulated opposing forces and proceeded to train with patrols in urban environments and counter-insurgency operations.

“MCCREs can be helpful for our infantry battalions,” said 1st Lt. Evan Inglett, weapons platoon commander “if we are not prepared for future operations, the consequences could potentially be dire for our Marines; we have to make sure the Marines are ready and confident to carry out any task they are given.”

By successfully completing the exercise, the Marines of 2/8 improve their readiness to fight.

“As a whole I think the Marines did great,” Sgt. Jared Hoinkis, a section leader with the battalion. “Not only did they meet and achieve all the standards set for them; The Marines exceeded them.”
