2005 Department of Defense Annual Report

Readiness and Environmental Protection Initiative (REPI), Department of Defense – Sustainable Ranges Initiative. The “DoD’s REPI Program is about working with states, communities, and conservationists in a positive way to promote win/win use approaches and solutions” (Alex Beehler, Assistant Deputy Under Secretary of Defense). In the face of increasing urban sprawl, the DoD developed the REPI program. Launched in 2004, REPI is part of DoD’s overall Sustainable Ranges Initiative, a multi-level effort designed to ensure the future use of military training land by addressing issues of potential encroachment on military training.

Archaeological Evaluation of Nine Sites in the High Use Training Area at Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune, Onslow County, North Carolina was prepared by Southeastern Archaeological Research, Inc. (Anne V. Stokes, Program Manager and Bryan C. Harrell, Principal Investigator). The report details the Phase II archaeological evaluations of nine sites at Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune. The purpose of this project was to evaluate the archaeological significance of the nine sites and to make recommendations regarding their eligibility for inclusion in the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP). The site evaluations were conducted as part of MCBCL’s ongoing cultural resources requirements under Section 110 of the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966 as amended (NHPA).

Archaeological Survey of Proposed Borrow Pit Camp Lejeune was prepared by Coastal Carolina Research, Inc. (William H. Reid and Loretta Lautzenheiser, Principal Investigators).
