Camp Lejeune, New River prepare for Destructive Weather
20 Jun 2014

The 2014 Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune, Marine Corps Air Station New River Annual Destructive Weather Exercise is scheduled for June 23 through 25.

The exercise will simulate a Category Three hurricane giving service members and civilians aboard MCB Camp Lejeune and MCAS New River the opportunity to practice the proper response to a destructive weather event.  While in previous years the exercise was conducted during the day, this year's exercise will include an overnight portion.

During the exercise, the base emergency operations center (EOC) will be activated followed by the activation of all tenant command organizations' destructive weather operations centers.
The EOC serves as the command center from where decisions are made and orders are given during extreme weather situations.

Goettge Memorial Field House and the basketball gymnasium at Wallace Creek Fitness Center will be closed June 24-25 for the exercise.  Daily base operations will not be affected.

Information on how to properly prepare for destructive weather can be found at the National Hurricane Center website, www.nhc.noaa.gov, as well as at www.ready.gov.

Interested media representatives are encouraged to RSVP before 4 p.m. Tuesday, June 24 for coverage on June 25.
