Biography
Commanding Officer, Weapons Training Battalion
Lieutenant Colonel James M. Geiger Jr.

LtCol Geiger enlisted in the USMC and attended Recruit Training at MCRD San Diego, California in December 1995.  Upon graduation from boot camp, he attended the School of Infantry aboard Camp Pendleton and earned the Military Occupational Specialty of 0311.

In June 1996 LtCol Geiger reported to 2nd Battalion, 1st Marines.  During the following three years, he deployed with the 11th and 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit (SOC), promoted to the rank of Sergeant, and performed the duties of Squad Leader. 

Following his commission in July 2004, LtCol Geiger attended The Basic School in Quantico, Virginia.  Upon graduating from Infantry Officer Course LtCol Geiger reported to 1st Battalion, 4th Marines.  From October 2005 until December 2006, he served as a Rifle Platoon Commander and deployed with the 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit (SOC) in support of Operation IRAQI FREEDOM. 

From January 2007 until January 2008 LtCol Geiger served as Executive Officer and Operations Advisor for Military Transition Team 0723 deployed to Operation IRAQI FREEDOM.

LtCol Geiger reported to The Basic School in February 2008 and served as the Infantry Platoon Commander, Combat Instructor Company, Instructor Battalion TBS until June 2009.  From June 2009 through November 2009, he was a primary instructor for the Platoon Package.  LtCol Geiger served as the Staff Platoon Commander for 4th Platoon, Company B (BOC 2-10) and 4th Platoon, Company G (BOC 4-10).

In October 2011, LtCol Geiger graduated from the Maneuver Captains Career Course at Fort Benning Georgia.

From November 2011 until August 2013 LtCol Geiger served as Company Commander, Company I, 3rd Battalion, 9th Marines and deployed in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM 12.2.

From August 2013 until December 2014 LtCol Geiger served as Weapons Company Commander, 1st Battalion, 2d Marines and deployed in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM 14.2.

In December 2014 until June 2018 LtCol Geiger served as a planner in the Ellis Group at the Marnie Corps Warfighting Laboratory.  While at the Marine Corps Warfighting Laboratory, LtCol Geiger graduated from the Command and Staff Blended Course.

From July 2018 until January 2019 LtCol Geiger served as Operations Officer, 2d Marine Regiment.

In January 2019, LtCol Geiger joined 1st Battalion 6th Marines where he served as Battalion Executive Officer and deployed to Okinawa, Japan as part of UDP-E.

In October 2020 LtCol Geiger checked in to the 26 MEU where he served as Operations Officer until January or 2022 when he transitioned to Executive Officer.
