CAMP LEJEUNE, N.C. -- To improve driver safety, Marine Corps Base (MCB) Camp Lejeune will close the Sneads Ferry Gate along NC-172, Oct. 3–8, to install rumble strips and new speed limit signs.
During this period, personnel should use Wilson Gate for entry and exit. The Sneads Ferry Gate is scheduled to reopen at 12:01 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 9.
The new rumble strips are part of a base-wide effort to alert drivers to the presence of active vehicle barrier systems, which could be deployed at any time. Over the next two months, rumble strips will be installed at all entry and exit control points at MCB Camp Lejeune and Marine Corps Air Station New River.
Combined with reduced speed limits, the strips are designed to give drivers more reaction time to changing conditions, lowering accident risk and safeguarding personnel and visitors — a top priority for installation leaders.
The Sneads Ferry Gate will also close Oct. 23 from 8:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. for preventative maintenance.
