CAMP LEJEUNE, N.C. -- Wilson Gate on Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune and Curtis Gate on Marine Corps Air Station New River are scheduled to temporarily close for rumble strip installation on May 3 and May 10, respectively. The closures, previously postponed due to weather, are scheduled as follows:
▪ Wilson Gate – Closed Saturday, May 3 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
▪ Curtis Gate – Closed Saturday, May 10 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The installation of rumble strips is part of a broad effort to increase safety of drivers across MCB Camp Lejeune and MCAS New River and complement the base-wide speed limit reduction from 25 mph to 15 mph implemented in February at the direction of U.S. Northern Command. The strips are an additional safety measure that will alert drivers to the presence of active vehicle barrier systems, which could be deployed at any time.
Together, the reduced speed limit and rumble strips enable drivers to react to changing conditions, reducing the risk of accidents and ensuring the safety of all personnel and visitors, which remain a top priority for leaders across both installations.
PLEASE NOTE: CLOSURES ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE DEPENDING ON WEATHER CONDITIONS.
