MCB CAMP LEJEUNE, N.C. -- Camp Lejeune Fire Department, Base Forestry and the Haws Run Volunteer Fire Department have reached 100% containment of a 1,400 acre-ground fire that started last Monday, April 7.
“The team has created breaks and extended approximately 5 miles of new and already existing fire breaks,” according to Fire Chief Alex Rivera, Camp Lejeune Fire Department.
Although contained, the crews will continue to monitor several ground fires that are actively burning. Smoky conditions may continue along Highway 17, especially if winds pick up.
