MCB CAMP LEJEUNE, N.C. -- Residents living near Davis South Airfield in Holly Ridge may notice increased noise from aircraft and training, April 8-10, due to scheduled Joint Strike Fighter and Forward Arming and Refueling Point operations at the newly refurbished airfield.
Residents in the areas surrounding the airfield should expect periods of elevated noise levels, particularly during active flight times, which are scheduled during daylight hours.
Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune’s Range and Training Area Management schedules these operations in support of the 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing’s (2nd MAW) ongoing training efforts to maintain readiness and proficiency.
Located just north of Holly Ridge in the Greater Sandy Run Training Area, the Davis South Airfield serves as a multipurpose outlying landing field (OLF) that supports every airframe in the Marine Corps’ arsenal to include the KC-130 Hercules transport aircraft, the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter, the MV-22 Osprey, and other rotary wing assets. It can even accommodate joint service aviation variants as large as the Air Force’s heavy lift C-17 aircraft.
Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune and the 2nd MAW appreciate the continued understanding and support from our surrounding communities as our Marines and Sailors train for the defense of our country.
