It's always important to know the "3 R's" of munitions safety, especially in areas around active or former ranges. Munitions are sometimes hard to identify. Even very old munitions can still be dangerous.

If you have found something you even think might be a munition:

• RECOGNIZE: Recognize when you may have encountered a munition.

• RETREAT: Do not touch, move or disturb it, but carefully leave the area.

• REPORT: Call 911, or the military police if you are on the Base.

Local authorities can call on Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune for assistance, if needed, to identify and safely dispose of suspected munitions.

A wealth of information about munitions safety, including safety guides for military families and outdoor recreationalists, photos, and educational materials that can be downloaded and printed, is available here.
