Tropical Storm Colin forms, community should monitor forecasts

2 Jul 2022 | Communication Strategy & Operations Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune

Tropical Storm Colin formed early this morning off of the South Carolina coast and is expected to pass across eastern North Carolina and Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune overnight Saturday into Sunday morning.

Although Colin is not expected to intensify to warrant a change in Tropical Cyclone Condition or disrupt normal base operations or services, the National Weather Service has forecast periods of heavy rain, localized flooding, a potential for isolated tornadoes, and strong wind gusts, primarily in areas along the coast.

MCIEAST components, tenants, and residents are advised to prepare for heavy weather by following these tips:

  • Take in objects that may be carried away by the wind.
  • Ensure storm drains are clear, and that windows and doors are shut properly.
  • Avoid travel during periods of limited visibility.
  • Do not attempt to drive through standing or flowing water.
  • Boaters are advised to closely monitor conditions and to exercise caution.
  • All personnel are advised to closely monitor official weather forecasts.

All should continue to monitor the National Hurricane Center and National Weather Service forecasts for the latest information.
