General Hunting Requirements

All North Carolina State Laws and Regulations pertaining to hunting, as well as applicable federal laws and regulations, and MCIEAST-MCB CAMLEJ Order 5090.115B and Environmental Standard Operating Procedures (ESOP) apply while hunting on Camp Lejeune.

Regulated public outdoor recreation on MCB Camp Lejeune/MCAS New River is a privilege extended to qualified personnel to include military personnel (active duty, retired-including medically retired with a 100 percent Veterans Administration disability rating, and reservist), current and retired Department of Defense Civilian employees, military dependents and civilian guests if sponsored by an authorized person.

Military personnel (active duty, retired, and active duty reserve) and civilian employees are authorized to sponsor guests.  Guests (including contractors, veteran ID holders, veteran health ID holders, and all other non-affiliated persons) must be accompanied by a sponsor to participate in recreation activities. Sponsors are responsible for the conduct, safety, and supervision of their guest while hunting. The sponsor and guests must remain in the same hunting area.

All persons authorized to hunt on Camp Lejeune must have in their possession a valid base hunting permit, North Carolina State hunting license, and big game harvest tags (if appropriate) while hunting.  Base hunting permits will only be issued after purchasing required state hunting license and obtaining a passing score on the base hunter safety test.  Authorized persons under 16 years of age are required to obtain a base hunting permit (free) and have a NC License exempt big game harvest report card or proof of completed approved NC hunter’s safety course. Persons under the age of 18 must be under immediate control or direct supervision of their licensed parent or guardian.

A daily Hunting Area Notice is provided by Range Control Scheduling Office. Areas open for hunting will be posted daily on the RecAccess website.

Area clearance must be obtained from the Base Conservation Law Enforcement Office prior to and immediately following the hunter going to or coming from designated hunting area. Area clearance is obtained via RecAccess.

An international orange torso vest and cap must be worn at all times while hunting, except for those engaged in waterfowl, wild turkey, dove, and/or bow hunting in designated “Bow Only” areas.

All motor vehicle travel to and from hunting sites must be in accordance with the Base Off-Road Recreational Vehicle Order (MCIEAST-MCB CAMLEJ Order 5090.111).

Vehicles are not allowed in areas designated as habitat for the Red-Cockaded Woodpeckers. These areas are marked with solid blue or white/blue bandings at the base of the trees.
