Sergeant Major Paul A. Berry, Marine Corps Installations East - Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune sergeant major

Sergeant Major Paul A. Berry enlisted in the Marine Corps in 1986 and attended Marine Recruit Training at Parris Island, South Carolina from September to December 1986 and graduated as a Private First Class.

In April 1987, he was assigned to Headquarters Battery, 3rd Battalion, 10th Marines at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. In May 1988 he attended Marine Security Guard School in Quantico, Virginia. He was then assigned to American Embassies in Accra, Ghana; Seoul, South Korea; Warsaw, Poland; and Casablanca, Morocco. In April 1992 he was assigned to Fox Battery, 2d Battalion, 10th Marines at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina and completed LF6F deployments in Somalia and the former Yugoslavia.

In May 1995 he was assigned to the Inspector-Instructor Staff with Kilo Battery, 4th Battalion, 14th Marines in Huntsville, Alabama where he served as the Battery Operations Chief. In June 1998 he was assigned to Headquarters Battery, 5th Battalion, 10th Marines at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. In June 1999 he was assigned to Weapons Company 2nd Battalion, 2nd Marines at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina where he completed a LF6F deployment and supported operations in Croatia and participated in Operation Silent Lance in the Adriatic Sea.

In May 2001, he was promoted to First Sergeant and was assigned as the First Sergeant for Weapons Company, 2nd Battalion, 2nd Marines at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. During this assignment he completed a LF6F deployment and participated in Operation Dynamic Response in Kosovo, operations in Djibouti, Africa, Operation Southern Watch and Operation Iraq Freedom. From January 2004 to December 2005, he served as First Sergeant for HQ Battery, 2D LAAD BN, Cherry Point, NC. From January 2004 to December 2005 he also participated in Operation Iraqi Freedom 04-06.

In December 2005 he was promoted to Sergeant Major and assigned as the Sergeant Major for 2d Low Altitude Air Defense Battalion at Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point, North Carolina. In April 2006 he was assigned as the Sergeant Major for Marine Tactical Air Command Squadron 28 at Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point, North Carolina. From December 2006 to April 2008 he deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom 06-08.

In May of 2008 he was assigned as the Marine Corps Recruiting Station Raleigh Sergeant Major and reported as Sergeant Major of Combat Logistics Regiment 2 from March 2011 to April 2012.

In June 2012, Sergeant Major Berry was assigned as the Sergeant Major for II Marine Expeditionary Force (Forward), Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. In February of 2013, Sergeant Major Berry deployed as the Sergeant Major for II Marine Expeditionary Force (Forward) and Regional Command (Southwest).

In March 2014, Sergeant Major Berry assumed his current duties as the Sergeant Major for Marine Corps Installations East – Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune.

His personal decorations include the Bronze Star with 1 Gold Star, Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Commendation Medal with 2 Gold Stars, Army Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with 2 Gold Stars and the Combat Action Ribbon.
