The Restoration Advisory Board (RAB) is a joint Department of Defense (DOD), North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality (NCDEQ) and U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) initiative to increase participation by local community members in the cleanup process at military installations. The RAB provides a forum through which local communities, installations and regulatory agencies work together in an atmosphere that encourages discussion and exchange of information.
Camp Lejeune established a RAB in 1996. There are currently 6 members from the local community on the board as well as representatives from the Base, NCDEQ, EPA, and Naval Facilities Engineering Command (NAVFAC) Atlantic. Did You Know?
Did you know the Department of War (DoW) has a program to clean up old military training sites? It's called the Munitions Response Program (MRP), and it helps remove unexploded ordnance (UXO) and other hazardous materials.
At MCB Camp Lejeune, we're working on two sites, UXO-28 and UXO-29, to make them safe for everyone.
Our plan includes:
• 3 Rs teach visitors and workers to Recognize, Retreat, and Report any potential explosives.
• Installing warning signs to alert people about the potential dangers.
• Having UXO technicians on-site during any ground-disturbing activities like construction.
