24th MEU departs for Naval Amphibious Forces Europe (Task Force 61)

MARINE CORPS BASE CAMP LEJEUNE, N.C — Marines and Sailors from 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit, II Marine Expeditionary Force (II MEF) have deployed in support of U.S. Sixth Fleet, Task Force 61 Naval Amphibious Forces Europe (TF-61) to continue the integration of command and control of deployed Navy and Marine Corps amphibious forces.

Approximately 70 Marine Corps and Navy personnel from the 24th MEU will continue to advance the integration between the Navy and Marine Corps, while enhancing the Marine Corps capability in the Sixth Fleet area of operations (AOO).

The Marines and Sailors from the 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit deployed to Naples Jan. 23, and will serve under the direction of U.S. Sixth Fleet Commander.

Historically, the Marine Corps and Navy are an integrated team capable of answering the Nation’s Call, no matter the clime or place. Task Force 61 provides the Blue-Green team with an opportunity to synchronize and conduct operations at the U.S. Sixth Fleet higher headquarters.
