MARINE CORPS BASE CAMP LEJEUNE, N.C. - The family of Gunnery Sgt. Terry W. Ball Jr., Maj. Gen. Robert C. Dickerson, the commanding general of Marine Corps Installations East, and 1st Sgt. Edgardo M. Guzman, India Company, 3rd Battalion, 8th Marine Regiment, cut the ribbon to officially open the Ball Center here Dec. 14. The recently renovated building was dedicated to Ball for his service to the Marine Corps during Operation Iraqi Freedom. Ball received fatal wounds from an explosion while conducting combat operations against enemy forces in Al Karmah, Iraq, while assigned to India Company, 3rd Battalion, 8th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division. MARINE CORPS BASE CAMP LEJEUNE, N.C. - Jackie Joyner, the east regional vice-president for Progress Energy, and Dan Oliver, the community relations manager for Progress Energy, presented Sgt. Juan S. Vargas Jr., the Camp Lejeune Single Marine Program president, Maj. Gen. Robert C. Dickerson, the commanding general for Marine Corps Installations East, and Susan D. Goodrich, the coordinator of the Camp Lejeune Single Marine Program, with a check for $10,000 from Progress Energy at the inaugural "Steak" Your Claim dinner Wednesday.
