Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune can confirm that a reported security incident near Tarawa Terrace Elementary School earlier this afternoon has been resolved.
Out of an abundance of caution, on-base schools and child development centers (CDCs) were placed on lockdown while law enforcement responded. The lockdown was lifted once the situation was secured, and schools and CDCs resumed normal operations.
No students, children or staff were harmed during the incident. Law enforcement actions during the incident resulted in one fatality. The name of the deceased is being held pending notification of next of kin. The circumstances surrounding the incident remain under investigation, and no additional details are available at this time.

The precautionary lockdown of on-base schools has ended, and schools have resumed normal operations. Parents or guardians who need to pick up their children may do so. There remains a significant law enforcement and emergency vehicle presence in the vicinity of Tarawa Terrace. To support safe operations and emergency response, base community members should avoid the area unless their presence is necessary.
