TOWNSHEND ISLAND, SHOALWATER BAY TRAINING AREA, QUEENSLAND, Australia – An F-18 Hornet from the USS Kittyhawk soars over its designated target area during a fire-support mission here, July 1. The fire mission was part of a four-day fire-support team training exercise involving personnel of the 3rd Marine Expeditionary Brigade’s 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit and their Australian counterparts during Exercise Talisman Saber 2007. Talisman Saber is conducted to train an U.S. and Australian joint task force and operations staff in crisis action planning for execution of contingency operations. The exercise involves more than 32,000 personnel from both nations that will focus on improving interoperability and enhancing regional stability.
