Brig. Gen Thomas A. Gorry speaks after being awarded a certificate marking him as a member of the Order of the Long Leaf Pine, by John Nicholson, the military affairs advisor for North Carolina Gov. Pat McCrory, aboard Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune. Nicholson presented the award on behalf of the governor. The award is typically given for long, dedicated service to the state of North Carolina, but the award can also be given for exemplary service in a short amount of time, said Nicholson. McCrory awarded Gorry on the basis of his time as the commanding general of Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune.
