Sergeant Major Jose R Beato Sergeant Major, Weapons Training Battalion

Sergeant Major Beato was born in Dominican Republic. He graduated from Lynn English High School in Lynn, Massachusetts. He enlisted in the Marine Corps in October 2000 and underwent recruit training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, SC.  In April 2001, Private First Class Beato completed the Personnel Administration School where he received the Military Occupational Specialty of 0121. 

In April 2001, Private First Class Beato received orders to the Division Personnel Administration Center, Camp Lejeune, NC to serve as a service record book clerk. He was promoted to Lance Corporal in December 2001 and promoted to Corporal in February 2003. In May 2003, Corporal Beato was augmented to 5th Battalion 10th Marines and deployed to Okinawa, Japan.

In April 2004, Corporal Beato was promoted to Sergeant and transferred to Inspector-Instructor, Tow Platoon, 25th Marines, Chicopee, MA to serve as a diary clerk. In 2005, Sergeant Beato deployed to Iraq where he served as an infantry squad leader under 5th Battalion, 14th Marines. During his deployment, Sergeant Beato was selected as the Battalion Marine of the Year for Fiscal Year 2005. 

In June 2007, he was promoted to Staff Sergeant and transferred to Marine Aviation Logistics Squadron 36 for temporary duties as the adjutant, legal chief and administrative chief. In April 2008, Staff Sergeant Beato transferred to Marine Aerial Refueler Transport Squadron 152 to serve as the administrative chief.

In June 2010, Staff Sergeant Beato completed recruiting school and transferred to Recruiting Station (RS) Portsmouth, NH as a canvassing recruiter. Staff Sergeant Beato was promoted to Gunnery Sergeant in March 2011.  While assigned to RS Portsmouth, Gunnery Sergeant Beato served as a canvassing recruiter and SNCOIC for Recruiting Substation (RSS) North Boston, and SNCOIC for RSS Waltham.

In July 2013, Gunnery Sergeant Beato transferred to 2d Battalion, 3d Marines, Kaneohe Bay, HI to serve as the administrative chief. In June 2014, Gunnery Sergeant Beato was frocked to the rank of First Sergeant and was assigned to Company B, 3d Radio Battalion. In July 2016, First Sergeant Beato transferred to Marine Corps Detachment Newport, Newport, RI to serve as the Senior Enlisted Advisor.

In February 2019, First Sergeant Beato was frocked to Sergeant Major and assumed the responsibilities as Sergeant Major for Weapons Training Battalion, Marine Corps Installation East – Marine Corps Base, Camp Lejeune.

Sergeant Major Beato holds a Bachelor’s of Science in Business Administration from the University of Maryland University College. His personal awards include the Navy/Marine Corps Commendation medal with two gold stars and the Navy/Marine Corps Achievement Medal with a silver star.
