Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune

MARINE CORPS BASE CAMP LEJEUNE, N.C. — The All-Marine Wrestling Team placed second in both Freestyle and Greco-Roman during the Armed Forces Championships 2016 at Naval Base Kitsap Feb. 20-21.

            Capt. Bryce Saddoris (154 lbs) and 1st Lt. Daniel Miller (215 lbs) both won gold medals in Freestyle.

            “Collectively, I believe, all the Marines competed very well and displayed superb mental toughness and professionalism,” said Saddoris, the team’s officer in charge. “I do think we have room for improvement in the context of our technique and experience.”

            The AMWT also had four Marines qualify to attend the Olympic Trials April 9-10 at the University of Iowa.  

            Saddoris, Miller, Lance Cpl. Eric Fader, and will represent the Marine Corps and compete to make the U.S. Olympics team.

            “I think this is a great opportunity to not only compete but also represent the Marine Corps in many facets. As a competitor I am a direct representative to the toughness all Marines display,” said Saddoris, a former All-American wrestler at the Naval Academy. “It is also an opportunity for me to represent my country in the Olympics, which is the pinnacle of all athletes’ careers. It will be an extra benefit to represent the United States in the Olympics as an American and United States Marine.

            “This task is not an easy one and that is why only the best competitors in the country are allowed to compete at the trials,” said Saddoris. “The three other Marines who have qualified are dedicated to working hard and staying disciplined. I am honored to lead those individuals because they make my job much easier. They are the backbone of the All-Marine Wrestling Team and set the example for others to emulate.”
