Sergeant Major Lyle D Robinson

Sergeant Major Robinson was born in Buffalo, New York in 1972. He enlisted in the Marine Corps in February 1992 and attended Recruit Training at Parris Island, S.C. where he was meritoriously promoted to Private First Class. He then attended Marine Combat Training and the School Of Infantry at Camp Geiger, N.C. 

In September 1992, he reported to 3rd Battalion 8th Marines, 2D Marine Division, Camp Lejeune, N.C. In February 1993, Lance Corporal Robinson deployed with the 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) in support of Operations Deny Flight and Sharp Guard. In June 1994, LCpl Robinson was meritoriously promoted to Corporal and deployed with the 22nd MEU in support of Operation Provide Promise. During this tour he served as a rifleman, fire team leader, squad leader and platoon sergeant. Corporal Robinson also completed the PME course, Noncommissioned Officer School.

In December 1995, Cpl Robinson reenlisted and made a lateral move to the Military Occupational Specialty (MOS) 1391, Bulk Fuel Specialist and reported to Marine Wing Support Squadron (MWSS) 271, Marine Corps Air Station (MCAS) Cherry Point, N.C. Cpl Robison was promoted to Sergeant in December 1996 and deployed with the 26th MEU in early 2007 as the Air Combat Element (ACE) fuels chief for Helicopter Marine Medium Squadron (HMM) 263 (Rein) in support of Operation Southern Watch.

In January 1998, Sgt Robinson completed his Professional Military Education (PME), Sergeants course at Camp Geiger, N.C. followed by orders to Drill Instructor School, Parris Island, S.C. Upon graduation, Sgt Robinson was assigned to Kilo Company, 3rd Recruit Training Battalion where he served as a Drill Instructor, Senior Drill Instructor and Academic Instructor. Sgt Robinson was meritoriously promoted to the rank of Staff Sergeant in July 2001.

In June 2002, SSgt Robinson reported for duty to Combat Service Support Group (CSSG) 3, Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii. He then deployed to Thailand as the detachment Gunnery Sergeant in support of Cobra Gold 2003. He also completed his PME, the Career Course; graduating with honors. During his tour he served as the Utilities Platoon Maintenance Chief and Company Gunnery Sergeant for Engineer Company.

In December 2003, SSgt Robinson received Permanent Change of Assignment orders to the Staff Noncommissioned Officer Academy, where he served as an instructor, chief instructor and the Academy Staff Noncommissioned Officer In Charge (SNCOIC). In December 2004, SSgt Robinson was promoted to the rank of Gunnery Sergeant and attended his PME, the Advanced Course; graduating with honors.

In February 2007, GySgt Robinson reported for duty to MWSS-373, MCAS Miramar and deployed to Iraq in support Operation Iraqi Freedom 2008-2. GySgt Robinson completed two PME schools during this tour, the Advanced Bulk Petroleum Course; graduating with honors, and the Expeditionary Warfare School Distance Education Program (EWSDEP). During his tour he served as the Fuels Operations Chief and Fuels Chief. GySgt Robinson was promoted to First Sergeant in June 2009 and completed the First Sergeants Course, in Quantico Va. Upon returning to his unit he served as the Company First Sergeant for Engineer Company.

In August 2009, First Sergeant Robinson reported for duty to 3D Maintenance Battalion, Okinawa, Japan where he served as the Company First Sergeant for Ordnance Maintenance Company and Engineer Maintenance Company. During his last year on Okinawa, First Sergeant Robinson was selected to serve as the Marine senior enlisted advisor to the Commanding Officer, 3D Medical Battalion for 11 months. During his tour he completed several PME courses including the First Sergeant/Master Sergeant regional seminar and the Senior Enlisted Joint PME.

In June 2012, First Sergeant Robinson was assigned to 1st Battalion 6th Marine Regiment, Camp Lejeune N.C., where he served as the Company First Sergeant for Alpha Company and Weapons Company. During his tour, he completed the Senior Enlisted Professional Military Education Course (SEPME). In December 2013, First Sergeant Robinson was promoted to Sergeant Major.

Sergeant Major Robinson is currently serving as the Weapons Training Battalion Sergeant Major.

Sergeant Major Robinson’s Personal Awards include:

The Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with gold star in lieu of second award, and the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with two gold stars in lieu of third award.
