Lieutenant Colonel Mark R Reid

Lieutenant Colonel Reid was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in June 1996.  After commissioning, he attended The Basic School and Infantry Officers’ Course.

Following IOC, Lieutenant Reid joined Company F, 2d Battalion, 8th Marines, where he served as Rifle Platoon Commander, Weapons Platoon Commander, and Company Executive Officer, deploying to Haiti in support of Operation NEW HORIZON; to Okinawa, Japan in support of the Unit Deployment Program; and to South America and West Africa in support of Marine Forces UNITAS.  In June 2000, Captain Reid left active duty.

In July 2001, Captain Reid joined 1st Battalion, 25th Marines in Ayers, MA for service as Heavy Machine Guns Platoon Commander and Javelins Platoon Commander, and then as the 25th Marines Inspector-Instructor Assistant Operations Officer.  In April 2002, Captain Reid joined the Active Reserve Program and was assigned to Marine Combat Training Battalion, School of Infantry (East), Camp Lejeune, NC, where he served as Company Commander, Instructor Group Officer in Charge, and Battalion Executive Officer.  He transferred to Training and Education Command in August 2005 where he served as a Project Officer at the College of Continuing Education. 

In July 2007, Major Reid reported to the Naval War College in Newport, RI as a student in the Naval Command and Staff College.  He was augmented back to the Active Component in March 2008, and in July reported to II Marine Expeditionary Force Headquarters Group for duty as the Operations Officer.  From January 2009 to February 2010, Major Reid deployed in support of Operation IRAQI FREEDOM as the Operations Officer and Executive Officer for II MHG and Special Purpose Marine Air Ground Task Force-Responsible Drawdown.  In August of 2010, Major Reid joined Battalion Landing Team 3/8, 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit for duty as the BLT XO.  During the 26th MEU’s deployment to the U.S. Central and African Commands, BLT 3/8 conducted contingency operations in Afghanistan in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM.

In September 2011, Major Reid joined U.S. Marine Corps Forces, Special Operations Command for duty as the G33 (Operations) Officer.  During this period, Lieutenant Colonel Reid deployed to Afghanistan as the Combined Joint Special Operations Task Force-Afghanistan J5 (Plans, Partnership, & Assessments) Director in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM.

Lieutenant Colonel Reid was promoted to his present rank on 1 June 2013.

Lieutenant Colonel Reid has a Bachelor’s Degree in Anthropology from Union College in Schenectady, New York and a Master’s Degree in National Security and Strategic Studies from the Naval War College, Newport, Rhode Island.

Lieutenant Colonel Reid’s personal awards include the Bronze Star, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, and Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal.
