Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune

Headquarters and Support Battalion service members and their families gathered at Marston Pavilion aboard Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune for an InfoPalooza to learn about opportunities offered on base and in the local community, July 30.

Attendees gained knowledge through numerous exhibits where venders provided information about base programs.

“This was the first InfoPalooza that Headquarters and Support Battalion has had,” said Rhonda Tomlinson, Family Readiness Officer with Headquarters and Support Battalion.  “We came up with the InfoPalooza, because we kept receiving requests for information from both service members and their spouses.”

The family friendly event gave attendees an opportunity to visit one location to learn about programs offered on base.  Attendees learned about health programs offered by Naval Hospital Camp Lejeune, fitness programs offered by Semper Fit and college options presented by the education center.

“What we do is share information about healthy lifestyles,” said John E. Swett a health educator at Naval Hospital Camp Lejeune. “We have information about mental health, men’s and women’s health, cancer and tobacco awareness.”

Service members came to gather knowledge that will help them while they are active or once they get out.

Cpl. Shelby Wiggleton, an administrative specialist with Headquarters and Support Battalion, said she came to Info Palooza because she is getting out of the Marine Corps soon and saw a flyer stating there would be classes about putting together resumes. 

The InfoPalooza had information available that met almost everyone’s needs for knowledge.

Lance Cpl. Daniel S. Ortega, an administrative specialist with Headquarters and Support Battalion, said he came to learn about career opportunities available to him, so he can take care of his family when he gets out. He said, he learned a lot and was glad he had the opportunity to attend.
