II Marine Expeditionary Force’s commanding general, Maj. Gen. William D. Beydler, welcomed community leaders into his home for breakfast Aug. 25 to discuss II MEF’s plans and initiatives for the coming fiscal year.

Attendees included Jacksonville’s Mayor pro tempore, Michael Lazzara, Onslow County Sheriff, Hans Miller, and Jacksonville Chief of Police, Michael Yaniero, along with representatives from other organizations and departments within the Jacksonville area.

Beydler discussed the unit’s plan to achieve deployable readiness and maintain high standards by encouraging Marines and Sailors aboard the installation to honor their core values and protect what they’ve earned.

This is the newest initiative undertaken by the command to help minimize alcohol related incidents. Plans are underway to distribute marketing material as requested by community leaders and install billboards along major roads in the Jacksonville area.

The command hopes to continue working with the surrounding communities to help Marines and Sailors make good choices, drink responsibly and protect what they’ve earned to improve the overall readiness of the unit.?”
