Marine Corps Community Services held the 4th annual Tiny Miss and Young Miss Daddy-Daughter dances at Marston Pavilion aboard Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune, Saturday.

The event was the perfect time for fathers and daughters to spend time together dancing, taking pictures and enjoying each other’s company.

“I just got back from a deployment,” said Maj. Joseph Jennings, staff judge advocate with the 2nd Marine Regiment. “My daughter Mara has been looking forward to this dance.”

The event offered participants the opportunity to interact with other fathers and daughters as well as share their dance moves with each other.

“It’s just the two of us at the dance,” said Jennings. “It’s a time where the girls can get dressed up and feel special. We went to the dance last year and took pictures. Those are memories that will last a life time.”

The dads aren’t the only ones that enjoy it, the daughters get a night to bask in their daddy’s attention all to themselves.

“I like to get dressed up, but I like dancing the best,” said Jennings’ daughter, Mara.

Along with cupcakes, other treats and snacks were provided to make the night enjoyable by all.

“I think my daughter Juliana enjoys the cupcakes the most,” said Sgt. Carlos Perez, Motor Transport technician quality control. “She also really enjoys the time we spend dancing.”

After the Tiny Miss Dance, ages 3 to 5-years-old, was the Young Miss Dance, ages 6 and above, held later in the evening and lasting an hour longer.

“We had 873 attend the dance,” said Wanda Colwell, clubs and catering director for MCCS. “Hosting the Daddy-Daughter Dances is a labor of love. We look forward to holding the dances every year, it’s one of the best events we ever do. We just want the fathers and daughters to bond, dance and have a good time, it works beautifully.”
