3 May 2021 | Communication Strategy & Operations Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune

At 8:15 a.m., May 3, base officials were alerted to a report of an active shooter at Tarawa Terrace Elementary School on MCB Camp Lejeune.

The Provost Marshal Office and Jacksonville Police Department responded to the incident and confirmed at 8:35 a.m. there was no active shooter situation and all school students and personnel are safe.

The phone call generating the report of an active shooter was a prank and is currently being investigated by the Provost Marshal Office .

During the initial response, the school and adjacent child development centers were placed on lockdown for their safety, but have since reopened.

Misuse of emergency services consumes valuable resources and personnel should only dial 911 if a true emergency exists. Prank phone calls to 911 limit the installations ability to respond to actual emergencies.
