A well-known radio personality and author performed a live broadcast to give military spouses household tips, from the Goettge Memorial Field House here June 26.

Heloise hosted the show, which was sponsored by the Staff Non-Commissioned Officers Wives' Club, and interviewed military spouses for their tips on household secrets. Then she spoke to military spouses about the military lifestyle.

"It's awesome, she's a very down to earth person with a lot to share," said Tammy Flippo, social committee chairperson for the SNCO Wives' Club. Tammy saw Heloise's show at Marine Corps Base Hawaii Kaneohe Bay about two years ago and followed Heloise's column since that time. About four months ago she e-mailed Heloise, to see if Heloise would come to Camp Lejeune and speak to military spouses.

"I think it was a wonderful opportunity for military spouses to come out, get hints, and give her hints, " said Mary Lee Sisson, newly elected president for the SNCO Wives' Club.

Heloise is the daughter of an Air Force colonel. Her mother, Heloise Bowles, began writing the column "Hints from Heloise", in 1959 for the Honolulu Advertiser. Heloise helped her mother with the column during her summer vacations, then took over the column in 1977 after her mother's death.

Heloise now has her own radio show. She also published 11 books and still continues to write the 7-days-a-week international column. The column is syndicated to more than 500 newspapers.

She's also a contributing editor for "Good Housekeeping" and writes "The Heloise Helpline" column for the magazine.

Heloise also makes guest appearances on ABC's "The View" and NBC's "The Today Show."

"I do it to help military families," said Heloise. "I was there, I know what it's like. If I can bring a little support to them, then that's how I can help."
