Major General Julian D. Alford Commanding General, Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune

Major General Alford is a native of Atlanta, Georgia. He attended West Georgia College, and as a sophomore, enlisted in the Marine Corps Reserves in 1985. Following graduation from college, he was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in December 1987.
 
Major General Alford's commands include: As a Lieutenant:  Rifle Platoon Commander, 3d Battalion, 6th Marine Regiment, during OPERATION JUST CAUSE, Republic of Panama and 81's Platoon Commander during OPERATIONS DESERT SHIELD and DESERT STORM;  Light Armored Infantry Detachment Commander, 2d Battalion, 4th Marine Regiment, 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit.  As a Captain:  Series Commander, Company Commander, 3d Recruit Training Battalion, Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, South Carolina;  Company Commander, 3d Battalion, 8th Marine Regiment, during OPERATION ASSURED RESPONSE, Monrovia, Liberia.  As a Major:  Commanding Officer, Recruiting Station, Nashville, Tennessee.  As a Lieutenant Colonel:  Commanding Officer, 3d Battalion 6th Marine Regiment, during OPERATION ENDURING FREEDOM, Afghanistan and OPERATION IRAQI FREEDOM.  As a Colonel:  Commanding Officer, The Basic School, Quantico, Virginia.  As a Brigadier General:  Assistant Division Commander, 2d Marine Division;  Commanding General of the Marine Corps Warfighting Laboratory/Futures Directorate, Quantico, Virginia;  Commanding General of Marine Corps Installations East/Marine Corps Base, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina;  Commanding General of Task Force Southwest, Helmand and Nimroz Provinces, Afghanistan, during OPERATIONS RESOLUTE SUPPORT and FREEDOM’S SENTINEL, he was promoted to Major General during this tour.
 
Major General Alford's staff assignments include:  As a Captain:  Operations Officer, 3d Recruit Training Battalion, Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, South Carolina.  As a Major: Operations Officer, 3d Battalion, 8th Marine Regiment; Executive Officer, 2d Battalion, 8th Marine Regiment during OPERATION IRAQI FREEDOM;  As a Lieutenant Colonel:  Operations Officer, 6th Marine Regiment; Faculty Advisor at the Marine Corps Command and Staff College. As a Colonel:  Joint Operations Analysis Officer, Institute for Defense Analyses;  Director of Strategic Effects, during OPERATION ENDURING FREEDOM, ISAF HQ, Kabul, Afghanistan; Military Fellow, Council on Foreign Relations, New York City;  Branch Head, Current and Future Operation, Headquarters Marine Corps (Plans, Policies & Operations).  As a Brigadier General: Chief of Staff, Joint Force Land Component Command, Kuwait.
 
Major General Alford has graduated from The Basic School, Infantry Officers Course, Amphibious Warfare School, Marine Corps Command and Staff College, and Marine Corps War College.
