Colonel Michael L. Scalise Deputy Commander, Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune

Colonel Michael L. Scalise is currently serving as the Deputy Commander, Marine Corps Installations East-Marine Corps Base, Camp Lejeune.   He is a native of Hampton, Iowa and a graduate of Buena Vista College at Storm Lake with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management.  He was commissioned a 2ndLt in December of 1988.  Upon graduation from The Basic School and the Logistics Officer Basic Course, Colonel Scalise was ordered to 1st Battalion, 2d Marines, 2d Marine Division where he acted as the command's Embark Officer and S-4A during deployments in support of Operation DESERT STORM/SHIELD and follow-on deployments to Okinawa, Japan.

In 1992, he reported to Inspector Instructor Duty in San Jose, California where he acted as the 4th Air Delivery Platoon Commander and Assistant Inspector Instructor, 1st BTO Company. Upon completion of his tour, he attended the Army Logistics Officer Advanced Course (CLOAC) at Ft Lee, Virginia.
Upon graduation, Colonel Scalise reported to MEU Service Support Group-13, 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit, I MEF, Camp Pendleton, California where he completed two Western Pacific deployments from 1996-1998 in the capacity of the unit S-4 and Operations Officer.  Following these deployments, Colonel Scalise reported to Headquarters, United States Marine Corps, Manpower, Officer Assignments and acted as the Operations Officer for Officer Assignments Branch.  In May 2002, he reported to the Commanding General, 3d Force Service Support Group, Okinawa, Japan where he filled a number of billets to include G-3 Exercise Planner, 3d FSSG, Company Commander, Motor Transport Company, 3rd Transportation Support Battalion, and Executive Officer, Material Readiness Battalion.

In June 2005, Colonel Scalise returned to the United States and executed the duties as the Program Manager for Marine Corps Military Construction, Headquarters Marine Corps. In June 2007, he assumed the duties as Executive Officer, Marine Wing Support Group 27 and subsequently deployed to the Al Anbar Province in support of Operation IRAQI FREEDOM aboard Al Asad Air Base. Upon his return, he assumed command of Marine Wing Support Squadron 272. Following command, Colonel Scalise attended the Air War College, Maxwell Air Force Base.  Upon graduation, he was assigned as the J-4 Director for Special Operations Command Africa (SOCAFRICA) in Stuttgart, Germany.  Upon completion of his tour, he assumed duties as the Commanding Officer, Marine Corps Logistics Base Barstow, California from June 2012 to July 2015.  Following command, Colonel Scalise assumed the duties of Marine Corps Installations East-Marine Corps Base, Camp Lejeune G-4 and in April 2016 he assumed the duties of the Marine Corps Installations East Chief of Staff.

Colonel Scalise’ personal awards include: Legion of Merit, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal with three gold stars, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with gold star, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, and the Combat Action Ribbon. Col Scalise has a Master’s Degree in Strategic Studies.
